God Meets Us in the Middle of It All

This past week reminded me of something I often forget: God doesn’t only meet us in the peaceful moments. He meets us right in the middle of the mess, the unexpected, the emotional, and the overwhelming. He meets us in the places we’d rather avoid, the situations we didn’t choose, and the nights that stretch longer than we hoped.

There were moments of real beauty — sitting at the piano with my wife, working on a worship song we’re writing together called You Meet Me Here. Singing it in our living room felt like God breathing peace into the house. Creativity flowed. Our hearts aligned. The atmosphere shifted.

And then, without warning, the week changed direction.

Safeguarding.

Accusations.

Police involvement.

A young person running away.

A room trashed.

A daughter anxious and overwhelmed.

A family stretched in three directions at once.

It all seemed to land in one night.

But even there — especially there — God was present.

He was present in the friends who looked out for us.

He was present in the officers who handled things with care.

He was present in the way our daughter held herself together, even through her silliness and nerves.

He was present in the strength He gave my wife when her heart was pulled in two places.

He was present in the calm that settled over our home when we finally walked back through the door.

And He was present in the verse that greeted me the next morning:

“The Lord will be King over the whole earth.” — Zechariah 14:9

A reminder that even when life feels chaotic, He is still King.

Even when situations feel bigger than us, He is still in control.

Even when we don’t know what to do next, His name is still the only name that stands.

This week taught me that God doesn’t wait for our lives to be tidy before He steps in.

He meets us in the middle of it all — the music, the mess, the fear, the laughter, the late‑night drives, the safeguarding meetings, the hormonal meltdowns, the worship moments, the quiet prayers whispered in the car.

He meets us here.

Right here.

In the real, unfiltered, unpolished parts of our lives.

And if He meets us here, He will meet you here too.

Wherever “here” is for you today — peace or pressure, joy or heaviness, clarity or confusion — God is not distant. He is not waiting for you to get it together. He is not waiting for the perfect moment.

He is already present.

Already working.

Already covering.

Already leading.

This is the heart of JFD.

This is the heart of the House.

This is the heart of the movement.

God meets us where we are — and He shapes us as we go.
